How far to go in the juniors?

Our son is 13, already highly ranked in the state (South Carolina) juniors. His coach used to be on the circuit, played some Satellite tournaments, and I think won one. He is encouraging our son to move up in the Futures tour, but that means a lot of money for travel, entry fees, equipment, and (naturally!) more intensive training. We’re comfortable, but not rich. Anyone out there been through that? I don’t want to just take our pro’s word for it, do you think it’s worth it?
